Being Your Best You Even if You Do Not Feel Like it

If you ever suffered with anxiety or depression, you are not alone. This may sound cliche but I promise it is true. The biggest struggle I have with my anxiety is making plans that sound so fun. Then when it is time for that event, my anxiety kicks in and I can not decide if I still want to go or not. My anxiety tells me all the bad things that could happen if I go to the planned event. My depression makes me struggle to have the energy to get ready for that event. I am sure you did not expect a fashion blog to be able to help you with some easy ways to get yourself going, but here it is.

If you are like me, you probably have heard something like this at some point in your life “if you look better you will feel better.” I was not always sure I believed this. Thought it was something people just said. Now that I am a little older, I look back and truly believe there is something to this thought. When I think about this statement and reflect, there are many times that this has been true.

I have struggled with depression and anxiety ever since I can remember. Many days it has been exceptionally hard to get out of bed. I just feel “blah.” Blah meaning, does it really matter if I do anything? does anyone actually care if I do anything? do they really care if I come to that event? do I care if I go? then this is followed with 1389634 ways things can go wrong and I shouldn’t go to the event, or work, or lunch, and how I don’t feel like getting ready.

One of these days was for one of my best friends baby shower. I struggled all day with motivation to get ready. Of course I could not miss this huge event in her life. I made sure I wore the perfect dress, curled my hair, did my makeup to match my outfit, and headed to the baby shower.. I was late, not going to lie to you, but looking back I would have never forgiven myself for not making it.

What I have learned is if I actually take time to get ready, makeup, clothes, hair, etc., I feel way better than I did laying in bed not doing anything. This can even be applied to having to go to the grocery store. Once I get to wherever I am going and look my best by putting on a little makeup, or wearing my favorite outfit, the day goes better than I had anticipated. If I let my head get to me and rush because I waited too long to get ready and still make it to the event, I usually do not have as good of a time because I feel unfinished.

If you do not have any idea what the above is about due to not having anxiety, this also very much applies to just not feeling well. Some times you may be a little off your game. Maybe you didn’t sleep well last night; maybe you have been on the go for weeks and are just tired. maybe you are fighting a little bug and not on top of your game. GET UP AND DRESS UP!!

It does not have to be huge changes to make your feel better. I work in healthcare. Most days I wear scrubs, tennis shoes, compression socks, hair in a ponytail or top knot, and no makeup. I have found that on days I need a little extra boost of confidence, if I fix my hair in a cute new up do I have recently watched a video on, or put on a little makeup, I have already started my day feeling much better than I thought I was going to.

The one thing I do for myself is get lash extensions. This is something that makes me feel better about myself when I look into the mirror and takes me no time to have to do while getting ready.

Another thing I do when getting ready is listen to music. Music can get me motivated, keep me motivated, lighten my mood, our simply calm my anxiety. I feel music is under used sometimes.

What are some quick or easy things you do to make yourself feel better if you are in a blah mood? Leave them in the comments so we can all share our tips and tricks.

Remember to flaunt what you got and being confident always makes you look better.

Flauntly Yours,
A

  1. This article is spot on. For me, getting in the shower is the hardest part. Something about warm water running over me, eases my anxiety. It washes away my doubts. Pushing myself to allow myself enough time to get ready. Procrastination and anxiety go hand in hand. Great read Amy!

Thanks for sharing this! I have some blah days too due to anxiety – stuck in my head all day and just unsure of what to do! But it’s important to try to snap out if it and just carry on. It really helps my anxiety it’s just hard to get going sometimes haha
