Sometimes being a fashionista and having to wear uniforms for work or school can be challenging. However, there are still ways to make the uniform your own, feel confident and be yourself. So the answer to, can you be a fashionista when wearing uniforms, is yes!
The entire purpose of this blog is to let everyone know that being you is the most beautiful thing you can do. That can be challenging when your job or school requires you to wear a uniform. When wearing a uniform subtle things can still be in compliance with uniform policies and allow you to be you.
For example, you could wear a pair of earrings that you love. You might consider wearing socks with a print that makes you happy. Possibly trade out your shoe laces for a color more you.
I was very fortunate in that the schools I went to did not have uniforms. I have more than made up for this in my adult life. The majority of my jobs have been jobs that uniforms were or are required.
I had a job where I had to wear jeans, their T-shirt, black or brown belt, and black safety shoes. Ugh, I know, sounds very blah. How did I make it mine? I went and got jeans that had huge belt loops and bought a very wide black velvet belt to wear with them. This was still within uniform policy guidelines. However, this little twist on the uniform made the outfit my own so I could feel a little more confident.
I work in healthcare, scrubs are my work uniform now. I was also a frontline healthcare worker during covid. We all looked the same. My co workers and I would go to work and dressed out in surgical scrubs. We had on masks and goggles on. You can imagine we all looked quite a lot alike. Trying to be yourself like this can be very difficult. Almost as difficult as it was for us to hear one another, not realizing how much we relied on reading lips in a very loud work enviroment. I kept my own style by deciding to wear surgical caps. I got prints that I liked and wore them everyday to work. I got one for each day of the week that I worked so I could rotate them out.
You can do little things to feel like yourself and have confidence in anything you wear. What are some things you have done when having to wear uniforms that made you feel more confident or more like yourself? Leave a note in the comments.
