Do you see the vanities in makeup or hair tutorial videos and think, why can’t mine look that good?
If you said yes, Me too!
It has been something I have been envious of for a long time.
My vanity either looked too plain or just had a lot of clutter on top of it.
There was no organization, just a bunch of beauty products on top of it.
A vanity can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. And should be.
Vanities take up a good bit of space. Due to this they are hard to hide away.
It took me a long time to figure out how to make my vanity look nice and be functional.
How long did it take you to figure out the right balance of beauty and function for your vanity?
Now that I am happy with how my vanity looks, I want to share it with you.
Hopefully this will give you inspiration if you are looking to organize, or change up your own vanity.
Remember, your vanity and the aesthetic needs to be unique to you.
You will be the one using it and looking at it. It needs to be something you are happy with.
The following is what I keep on top of my vanity and their uses.
Eyeshadow palette organization
I have an organizer for the eyeshadow palettes that sit out, on top of my vanity.
It is a simple plastic hearts organizer that keeps them organized.
This also lets them be displayed in a cute, convenient, and aesthetically pleasing way.
Not just laying around on top of the vanity.

Eyeshadow palettes
These are the palettes that stay in the organizer of my vanity.
– Naked Reloaded by Urban Decay

I really like palettes like this.
They contain all the colors you need for a great eye makeup.
The Naked Reloaded palette is probably the palette I use the most often.
It has neutral and natural colors that are great for almost any makeup look.
– Naked Ultraviolet by Urban Decay

Purple shades make brown eyes pop.
The Naked ultraviolet palette is highly pigmented and bright.
This one I use if I am wanting a bright makeup.
This palette is not for everyday wear.
It is still on top of my vanity for aesthetic purposes.
– Naked Heat by Urban Decay

The Naked Heat palette I like to use for concerts and festivals due to the vivid colors.
I also like to use it when I wear neutral colors to give a contrast.
This palette is great for a bold eye makeup.
– Fatally Yours by Melt Cosmetics

This palette is very unique.
It has colors not often found in eyeshadow palettes.
The colors in this palette I do not normally think of using, so it is fun to experiment with.
– That’s Taupe by ColourPop

The ColourPop that’s Taupe palette is great for most makeup looks.
It is great for everyday makeup looks and when I want to keep a more natural look to my makeup.
Makeup brushes and holders
Brush holders are a cute and fun way to keep makeup brushes easily accessible and be on display.

My mom got me this crystal skull makeup brush holder.
I found some makeup brushes that would complement it..
I like brushes that are pretty and functional.
I am picky about my makeup brushes though.
I usually research them and read reviews before buying them.
The makeup brushes in the picture above I found on Amazon.
The brushes are cute.
The are not the best makeup brushes I have ever had, but they are good quality and work well.

This cute brush holder was given to me by a co-worker as a Christmas gift.
The pink brush is a foundation brush that is from IT cosmetics.
The brush is perfect for foundation if you are using a brush instead of a blender sponge for foundation application.
The gold handled brush is the one I use for blush and highlighter application.
I have no idea what brand it is. I have used it for a while and like the way it blends.
The makeup brush in the far back is an IT X Ulta powder brush.
I use that brush for my powder application.
The brush is perfect size for finishing powder and those finally blending touches.
The brush to the right is just an old brush I have.
I keep this one for my dogs, Bella and Buddha.
While I am doing my make up, I use the brush to pretend to do their makeup too.
If I am getting ready, they think they have to get ready as well.

Lash brushes and holder
I keep spoolie brushes almost everywhere.
I have lash extensions so spoolie brushes are a must.
The ones I have are the reusable ones in plastic tubes. I get these to prevent dust and dirt from getting on them.
This protects my lashes and avoids potential eye issues..
This also allows the brush to be used for longer.
For these I put them in a lash themed brush holder.

Speaker
I have a Bluetooth speaker on my vanity.
Music is an essential part of my getting ready routine.
This speaker on my vanity is small.
It has decent sound for the size.
The speaker is also cute to add to the aesthetic of the vanity.

Mirrors
Of course my vanity has a mirror as part of it.
I also have a mirror that has several different magnifications, and can be moved for different angles.
This is great for doing makeup, dermaplaning, or popping pesky pimples.
The mirror I have folds up.
This makes it convenient to not take up so much space when I am not using it.

The middle mirror has lights to see better.
The middle and the left side mirrors are normal mirrors.
The mirrors on the right side are 2x magnifying and 3x magnifying.
The magnification helps to see makeup creases or a hair that needs to be plucked.
Picture
To me, a vanity is not finished without a picture on it.
Do you think this as well?
Maybe because my great grandmother and my grandmother both had a single picture on their vanities.
That is something that has always stuck in my memories.
Because of this, on my vanity I have one picture.
The picture is of the love of my life and myself.
I found a picture frame that went with the aesthetic I wanted.
I then printed out my favorite picture of my husband and me.
Do you have a picture on your vanity?
If you do, who is the picture of?

Electricity
All vanities need a place to plug in a hair dryer, curling iron, and hair straightener.
I also need to plug in chargers for my phone and speaker.
The best way to do this is a surge protector.
I found one that is movable and bendable on the “isle of shame” at Aldi.
If you don’t know what that is, it is an aisle at Aldi grocery store. The aisle has random, non-grocery items.
The surge protector matches my vanity, has multiple plug ins, and has USB and USB-c ports.

Bringing it all together
Brining it all together for my ultimate vanity set up.
What is your dream vanity set up?

My vanity is extremely old and gorgeous to me.
I do not like to clutter it up, that way the beauty shows.
A vanity should fit in with the aesthetic of the room and be functional.
Do you agree?
I hope this post gives you inspiration to make your vanity area look great and be functional.
Especially if you are looking to organize or change up your vanity. Or if you are just looking for somewhere to start.
Remember to keep your vanity unique to you.
It is your space.
It needs to be what you like.
It should include what you need to use.
It should also match the aesthetic of your room.
