How to be “The Purge” for Halloween

Instead of just buying an expensive halloween costume from a store, you can make your own unique halloween costume.

Accomplishing this can be done easily by only buying a few things and using what you already have at home.

This year for Halloween I was “The Purge” for about $40

MASK

First thing I bought was the mask. I found it on Amazon.

Unfortunately the specific one I bought is not available, but there are many others on Amazon if you are looking for one.

The mask has a battery pack that uses 2 AA batteries.
There are 4 settings of lights.

On
Fast blinking
Slow blinking
Off

It is very simple to operate. There is 1 button on the battery pack and you simply click through until you get to the setting you are wanting.

The downfall of wearing a mask for halloween is that it is difficult to eat or drink.

You will consistently be lifting the mask up or taking it on and off.

Even though there are eye holes in this mask, when it is lit up, it is quite difficult to see, especially when it is dark.

SHIRT

The shirt I used was one of my husband’s old dress shirts.

The dry cleaners messed it up a while back so I asked him if I could have it for this costume.

I bought some fake blood from a Dollar General.

My grandson helped me with putting the fake blood on the shirt.

I put the fake blood on a plate. My grandson put his hand in it and would put his hand print on the shirt and smear it.

We did this a couple of times.

It looked so good, I let him just go wild with it. The result was exactly what I was going for.

I hung the shirt up and let the fake blood dry for about 24 hours.

The next day when I knew it was completely dry, I took scissors to the shirt. The goal was to make it look like I had been in a struggle or fight.

I cut some, put it on the way I wanted to wear it, then cut some more until it was the way I was wanting it.

You can always cut more, but not always take it back.

This is why I did it in stages.

BODY SUIT

Under this shirt I wore a black body suit that I already had in my closet.

The dress shirt was see through and I wore it tied up so needed something underneath.

I wore a tutu that was short in the front so needed coverage there as well.

The body suit is also textured. It went really well with the costume.

SKIRT

I got a hi lo tulle skirt from Amazon. It was about $25.

Unfortunately, that link will not let me share it here, but there are many to choose from.

The one I purchased was from MisShow.

SOCKS

I wore thigh high socks that I had already.

I cannot remember where I got them from as I have had them for a while.

Of course to not have to wear thigh high socks. I had them already, and it went well with my costume so I wore them.

You can get some similar to this at places like Hot Topic or Target.

BOOTS

The boots I wore for this costume were combat boots I had in my closet.

The brand of them is ETC!

I think I may have gotten them at Rue21 years ago.

I went with combat boots to keep with the purge aesthetic of a struggle or fight.

PROP

My husband had been Negan from ” The Walking Dead” a few years ago.

I used his prop “Lucille ” from that costume as my prop for my purge costume.

Conclusion

I was able to make a unique halloween costume with only buying a few things.

I used things I already had and repurposed them for my costume.
