Being a diva and a fashionista when you get hurt or sick can be a bit more challenging. I have always liked a good challenge though. Life gives us plot twists sometimes. We have to come up with ways to make the best of them.
A little over a year ago I fell down some stairs and broke my ankle. It was at a baby shower I was helping to throw for a good friend. I tried to play it off, but unfortunately I could not get back up the stairs to where the shower was being held. This was one of life’s many plot twists.
I had to be off of my ankle completely for 2 weeks, then in a air-cast boot for 6 weeks afterwards. This was not going to keep me from looking my best.
If you have never had the opportunity to use crutches, you may not know how sterile and drab they look.
Since I couldn’t do much with one leg, I decided to give my crutches an upgrade. Pinterest was a big help to get my ideas going. Amazon was a great help as they had what I needed to make my crutches look better, and they deliver.
I started with picking out some patterned duct tape. When the duct tape arrived I got to work personalizing my crutches. I began wrapping both of my crutches with a blue and white cloud duct tape. (This was not what I wanted, but was the best of the choices available) Very carefully making sure to cover all the metal parts I could. Wrapping the crutches like the bottom part of a baseball bat for better grip.
Tip, make sure the crutches are at the height you need them before doing this. It will be very heard to adjust afterward.
Next step was the pads. I found some fluffy, cute and very helpful covers for the padded area at the top of the crutches. This is the part that goes under your arms. I also got these from Amazon as I broke my right ankle and could not drive for 8 weeks.
Tip, start on one end of the pad and slowly work your way to the other side installing the covers. . These were a little tricky to to put on, but finally figured it out.
The last addition to the crutches was the best one. Amazon also had cute, fluffy, covers for the hand grips. My hands would be exhausted from using the crutches. The palms of my hands would get so sore. These cute and functional grip covers were a life saver. They were super easy to put on, just velcro to attach.

With these crutches, I felt like I had to bling out my boot as well. I opted for a few stickers, just enough to make it my own. Especially since it was apart of me for 8 weeks.

These are some of the ways I got through this little plot twist. What are things you have done when life didn’t go as planned to make yourself feel a little better? Leave a comment about it if you would like to share.
Remember the more confident you feel the better you look no matter what the situation.
Flauntly Yours,
A
